
About Cpt. Niloofar Rahmani
Niloofar Rahmani was born in Kabul Afghanistan in 1991. She was only 6 months old her family became refugee in Pakistan like many other Afghans. She spent her childhoods in refugee camps in Pakistan,
Since she was a child, she had a dream of becoming an Astronaut and spent nearly a year studying English to be able to attend flight school. She enlisted in the afghan Air force officer Training program (OCS) in 2010,and in July 2012 graduated as a second lieutenant.
Her first Solo flight was in Cessna-182 C-208. Dream to fly larger Aircraft she went to advanced flight school and was flying soon the C-130 Hercules Military transport aircraft and graduated from C-130 Training in 2016 from united state. She Become the first female fixed _wing Air force aviator in Afghanistan History. Rahmani accepts her pilot wings at a ceremony in 2013. She is also the first female fix wing pilot in the Afghanistan military since the fall of Taliban in 2001.
In the spring of 2015, the U.S. State Department honored Captain Rahmani with international women of courage Award; she got to meet Michelle Obama and flew with blue angles.
The spell was broke by the moment she returns to Afghanistan, she discovered while she was away there was a threats on her father and brother life and her mother was hospitalized because of a heart attack. A photo of her has gone viral on social media in Afghanistan from her solo flight, that she was drenched in water most people said she have been baptized and Rahmani abandoned her religion and that way the public shamed her.
Women are traditionally banned being in the Military, when her achievements were Publicized, Captain Rahmani family received dead threats from both family member and the Taliban that notoriously shot and wounded Malala Yousafzai, Rahmani extended family who disapproved of her ambition and career choices. The family has had to move several times, but Rahmani is resolute she wont be silence and aims to fly.
