About Will Watson

William H.J. Watson is currently a sophomore at Boston College majoring in Political Science. He is also studying Arabic, International Affairs, Constitutional Thought, and is currently working on a piece regarding The Capital Insurrection for a course titled “Fundamentals of American Political Thought.”

A graduate of the Morristown-Beard School, a private high school in New Jersey, Will was a peer writing tutor, a member of Spectrum , was selected by the faculty and staff as a student representative for the National Student Diversity Leadership Conference , and was tasked with delivering the commencement remarks at his graduation in June of 2020. Will was a student-athlete, playing varsity tennis and football. In his senior year, Will has elected captain of the football team and led the team to its first winning season in over 10 years. He was the student speaker at all school assemblies throughout his senior year, where he gave talks on issues of inclusion, leadership, and allyship to the entire student body.

Will has a strong interest in policy and law. He took Constitutional Law in high school, a class built around executing mock trials based on real cases, where he was chosen as the defense attorney. Will also worked in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Municipal court during the spring and summer of 2019, serving as the judge’s assistant and her couter transcriber. In this role, he took notes in court and during trials as well as interviewed local police officers and attorneys about revising New Jersey’s 2017 Cash Bail System and provided this feedback to the Municipal court judges. He aspires to attend law school following graduation.

Since 2015, Will has been an employee of John’s Meat Market, a local merchant in business for over 90 years. In addition to customer service, Will assisted the Market with organizing the inventory and creating an on-line presence for ordering and delivery during the pandemic. He continues to work there during school breaks. Will is a volunteer at his parish, St. Bartholomew the Apostle in Scotch Plains, New Jersey where he has been the organizer of programs to serve and honor Veterans.

At Boston College, Will is a member of the Bystander Club, a program that seeks to “empower Boston College students to stand up and speak out to prevent instances of rape and sexual assault.”

Tasked as a student trainer, Will gives presentations weekly to first year students regarding the nationwide crisis of sexual violence on college campus’.Will is a member of the Law Society at BC, a club meant to explore the avenues of practicing law where club members meet with professionals in the Boston area specializing in various legal practices.

Will hopes to enrich the conversation around male advocacy both at the university and professional ecosystem levels and help create positive change.
